Healthforce Center at UCSF has released a detailed analysis of how this year’s budget dollars for health workforce development will be allocated, where unspecified funds could be spent to make the biggest impact—and where the state should invest next year to continue “making rapid progress in addressing the state’s health workforce needs.”

At the Commission’s request, Healthforce Center at UCSF assessed California’s current workforce data system and have identified three opportunities for upgrading this system to improve monitoring of trends in California’s health workforce and health professions education.

With budget season beginning in earnest in Sacramento and the legislative session moving toward its halfway point, the Administration and Legislature have demonstrated a clear understanding of the scale of California’s looming health workforce challenges—and have begun to advance a range of substantive proposals to take on the state’s provider shortages and improve access to care.
